Becoming a vegan, or just trying new eating habits can be a daunting task. I’ve bravely explored sometimes dubious health-food aisles and found what works for me. I’ll admit it, some alternatives are downright disgusting. Below you can find some of my favorite staples, and I hope this helps!
‘Meats & ‘Dairy’
These are sweet, slightly sticky but very tasty burgers. Black bean base with seitan, quinoa, barley, corn and green chilies. Plus 17g of protein
Seitan is gluten based and can be made in countless ways. Good in so many dishes and each box has over 50g or protein.
Great meat alternatives for salads, pasta, and sandwiches. Cubed or sliced and flavored in so many ways. This kind is flax based.
I could eat this with a spoon, not that I ever would. So delicious on toast, crackers, celery. They also make flavored types, my favorite is chive & onion but it can also be flavored yourself.
These make the best grilled cheese. They’re best slightly melted, but I sometimes eat on their own.
I melt these in everything: pasta, ‘eggs’, couscous. Also if you quickly fry with a little bit of water this creates awesome nacho cheese spread.
So good! Very creamy and smooth texture. I use to despise plain regular yogurt, but this is sweet enough to eat on on its own. 8g of protein. I add nuts, agave, fruit, chia seeds… And they have several other great flavors!
Orange Mango Juice: They read my mind. Everything is better with mangoes.
Orange Juice: I’ll admit, I was not a big fan of OJ, but this is great. There are no flavor packets meaning it’s about as fresh as it gets. It’s also organic and flash pasteurized.
Hemp Milk: The vanilla unsweetened is good enough to drink on its own (though I do add agave sometimes), and has a nice creamy texture great for drinking, cereal, and baking.
So many uses I could write an encyclopedia. I normally prefer the unrefined type as it has a sweeter taste.
I love putting this on salads, avocados, tomatoes and other fruits
